Why Thunderdird now is so slow

Why you recommend to upgrade to ESR when the one that I had been using for years I don't trusted

I have Thunderbird: 128.10.1esr (64-bit)

Hi! I'm experiencing an issue where videos on YouTube stutter or play choppily when using Firefox. This happens even when the internet connection is strong and works fine in other browsers like Chrome.

Here’s what I’ve noticed:

The issue occurs on both 720p and 1080p videos.

It’s more noticeable when switching to full-screen mode.

I’ve tried disabling hardware acceleration, but it didn’t help.

Firefox is up to date (v126.0).

I’m using Windows 11 and have an NVIDIA GPU with the latest drivers.

I’d appreciate any suggestions or fixes. Thanks in advance for your help!

NVIDIA RTX Video Enhancements are not working in firefox at all. By not working, i mean neither Super Resolution neither HDR enhancements work at all, not even the badge shows up, and the NVIDIA app reports the status as "inactive". The video is not upscaled, and the content isn't getting put into HDR. It is on globally on my system, and does work on all the chromium based browsers installed on my system, even on the discord app itself.

I tried a latest firefox fresh install, with youtube playback, or just opening a video file directly with the browser. This worked on chromium browsers, but not on firefox.

I'm on windows 10 64bit with a 3060 gpu. (the only gpu in the system.) I have 4 monitors connected, but still get the same issue with only one. Hardware decoding is force enabled, and about:support reports that hardware decoding is supported for H264, VP8, VP9 and AV1 too. I even get the same amount of video-decode usage in task manager on both chromium and firefox while video is playing.

Consistency, and failure of multiple accounts to down load emails. Several accounts download fine. The program does not respond to clicking on Download email Icon for unresponsive account. Two Hotmail Accounts will not log in, are a separate issue.

After a recent update, certain websites (like Youtube) leak script that remains even after the tab is closed, until Firefox is closed. When one of these websites is accessed for the first time, a second tab opens and quickly closes, as if a popup was blocked. One way I can observe this behaviour is that the NoScript extension will detect script for that website on ALL tabs, even blank ones, with the "(sidebar?)" annotation. With Youtube I managed to prevent this by disabling Service Workers in about:config, but for example with tenor.com the behaviour continues to occur even then.

Websites I observed this behaviour on so far: youtube.com (until Service Workers were disabled) tenor.com nami.news

Is this a bug? I have also observed the same behaviour on a different PC for Youtube until I disabled Service Workers on that installation. What should I do?

In AM of 05/23/25 my Thunderbird mail downloaded to my desktop just fine. By afternoon of same day I get an error message (see attached) saying that it is unable to write to my mailbox. Error has continued for almost 24 hours now (thru 05/24/25 AM). I can get the email account on my phone through another program, but I like to save my important mail to my desktop storage. Please advise. (I did nothing to change my Thunderbird configuration on 05/23/25 that would have generated this message.)

every time I try to log in to my hotmail account, I get this: "Please retry with a different device, use a VPN, or other authentication method to sign in. For more details, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2317517" this has started today...have been using Hotmail and Firefox for years, now all of a sudden this happens? why isn't firefox allowing me to use hotmail?

I'm running Thunderbird 138.0.3 (release update channel). I had an update in the past few days and now it is having a problem. Thunderbird starts OK but it I use another program for several minutes when I go back to Thunderbird its window is not visible. Looking at my system monitor Thunderbird is using a lot of CPU. The only way I can proceed is to kill Thunderbird from the system monitor. No crash report is generated. Running in safe mode does not help.

If I run Thunderbird from a terminal I get: $ thunderbird [64132] Sandbox: CanCreateUserNamespace() unshare(CLONE_NEWPID): EPERM ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

This seems pertinent as it it to do with graphics but the web seems to suggest it in not important.

I have copied the Troubleshooting information to a text file and so can share it but it is quite large does not seem appropriate to include it here.

A few weeks ago, just after I tried to delete the cache and tracking cookies from Firefox (using AVG TuneUp, which seems to have taken more than I asked it to remove), my browser started refusing to load any new sites, or reload inactive tabs, once I had been using it for about five minutes after rebooting it. It also crashes completely when I try to download or upload anything after that point, which is irritating but does mean I have some crash reports to share (bp-5a7c5f6e-0d55-451a-8b2b-15b360250524 is the latest one). I've tried everything I can think of or find on the Internet - Troubleshoot mode, disabling and re-enabling hardware acceleration, refreshing the browser, uninstalling and re-installing it with and without restarting the computer in-between (which seemed to work for a while), culling tabs (although, if I'm reading the crash reports correctly, lack of memory isn't the issue after all; certainly, Chrome doesn't have the same problem even when using more memory than Firefox did), even running diagnostics on my computer's RAM and hard drive - but nothing's fixed it. What might be going on, and how can I solve this problem?

I am no longer receiving calendar notifications for events which are entered as "all day" events on my Google calendar.

I had a similar problem about three years ago when I wasn't receiving notifications for ANY events on my Google calendar. I attempted to solve this problem in a similar fashion by uninstalling/reinstalling Thunderbird then disconnect/reconnecting Google Calendar as discussed in the following link, but the All Day events' notifications still are not appearing.

As a debugging step/temporary solution (so I don't miss notifications), I have integrated my Google Calendar with Outlook, and am receiving notifications correctly with that app, so the problem doesn't appear to be on the Google end.

Hi, I recently had an office location change and post that in my office laptop, Thunderbird cannot authenticate with outlook and collect mails from it. IT team tried syncing the password from their end, and we tried a million other things like checking server settings in Thunderbird etc, but nothing is working. It just says "connecting to outlook.office365.com...." and is stuck there.

I'm using Proton VPN. I have the split tunneling set to allow non-VPN connection for thunderbird.exe . It doesn't work. I have a different app that needs split tunneling and it works fine, so it's not the way Proton VPN handles split tunneling. I'm wondering whether I should use a different exe as the split-tunneled one. I see 8 other exe's in the same folder. Perhaps one of these is the one to set-up for split tunneling. BTW I had exactly the same problem when I was using Nord VPN.
